CCTV Security Helping to Prevent the use of Fake Bank Notes

Pictures from CCTV security have been released by police of a man believed to be connected to a number of incidents across Lancashire involving fake bank notes. The incidents which occurred between May and December last year across a number of locations including Preston and Blackpool saw the offender enter a shop or pub and pay for items using forged bank notes.

The purchases were usually of small value in order for the offender to receive as much change as possible.

With the release of CCTV pictures this week police have urged anyone who may know the man captured on camera to come forward in order to stop this fraudulent behaviour.

CCTV Security Upgrade in Islington

Islington council have announced plans this week to upgrade their CCTV security network with state-of-the-art cameras in more locations. The new cameras produce high resolution images and Islington council intend to expand their CCTV network onto every estate.

The update would see the CCTV network centralised to one 24-hour control centre in a bid to bring a stop to gang problems which have been arising in many estates across Islington. Improved CCTV security will ultimately increase the safety of residents whilst cutting down on trouble makers.  The current CCTV cameras were installed in 1997, and their poor picture quality and low resolution images make it difficult to identify suspects.

This move from Islington council is part of a wider crime fighting scheme across the capital, in particular the crack down on gang culture.

Advanced Security Equipment Planned to be Installed at Kensington Palace

Sensitive documents detailing new security measures to be installed at the Kensington Palace apartment of Prince William and Kate Middleton can be viewed by the public.  Despite pleas from Buckingham Palace to treat the documents as confidential, and appealing for the application not to be allowed to enter the public domain, the plans can viewed by anyone who applies in writing for an appointment and provides proof of identity on arrival.

Security plans for the apartment include installing an “air lock” double door to deter intruders, an advanced CCTV system, pop-up bollards and spiked railings. It is believed at least £500,000 needs to be spent on technical upgrades to the flat which the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge plan to move into next year.

Celebrity Chef Caught Shoplifting by Covert Security Cameras

Celebrity chef, Antony Worrall Thompson was yesterday caught shoplifting from a Tesco store close to his home in Henley-on-Thames. The former Ready, Steady, Cook star was allegedly seen failing to pay for good on five separate shopping trips between December 22 and January 6.

Security staff began to become suspicious after it appeared Worrall Thompson wasn’t scanning and paying for all of his items whilst using the self-service checkout. To ensure the chef wasn’t just mistakenly forgetting to pay, security staff installed a hidden camera and waited to catch the chef on a camera a number of times before stopping him before leaving the store on Friday.

CCTV cuts may make streets more dangerous

Northampton Borough Council has admitted it may have to cut back on the cost of running its CCTV network and has suggested cutting £39,000 from the town’s CCTV budget for 2012.

However these cut backs have left many fearing that reductions to the number of CCTV cameras in the town would make people feel unsafe. Councillor Lee Mason, leader of the Labour opposition party in the town fears that cutting CCTV will make Northampton more dangerous.

Northampton Borough Council has declared the town has so many CCTV cameras it is impossible to monitor them all, there are currently more than 500 cameras in the town and the Borough Council have confirmed some of the devices have captured no crimes at all. However Councillor Lee Mason believes these proposed cut backs are completely ignoring the fact that “preventing crime is actually the biggest advantage of CCTV.”

More CCTV Released in London Riots Investigation

Today, Scotland Yard released images of more than 200 suspects involved in the London riots back in August. The online release of the images aims to bring those involved to justice.

Police used social media site, Flickr to upload the pictures of the 213 “most wanted suspects” suspects from the violence and looting in August.

Police have already arrested over 3000 thousand people involved in the riots and offices have been scouring 200,000 hours of CCTV footage so that they can bring some of the worst offenders to justice.

You can view the police’s Flick Photostream to see the images that have been released. For more information on CCTV Security, contact Henry Gates.

Web based CCTV adopted by Surrey police

After a successful pilot scheme, Surrey police will be expanding its use of online CCTV.

The unique camera system, Jabbakam, is much easier to use and has allowed the police in Surrey to view images in real time from the internet.

The CCTV system was introduced to areas in Surrey with high levels of antisocial behaviour and in it’s month trial, the police saw a huge drop in antisocial related crimes.

Not only did crime decrease, but because of the ease of the system, it was easy to identify suspects and it consumed much less time than old CCTV systems that the police previously used.

Surrey police will continue tackling antisocial behaviour at night, by buying more of these cameras that will be placed in residential roads that are affected by antisocial behaviour at night.

CCTV to be installed to prevent abuse on animals

Ministers in England and Scotland are considering making CCTV in slaughterhouses compulsory to prevent animal abuse and help enforce the laws surrounding animal cruelty.

The charity, Animal Aid has already encouraged supermarket chains to make suppliers fit CCTV cameras in the slaughterhouses, after taking secret footage of some of the appalling cruelty that goes on.

Now many of the major supermarket brands including, Tesco, Asda & Morrisons all require monitoring from all of their meat suppliers.

CCTV installation costs can be as little as £200, depending on the size, scale and sophistication of the set up.

With ministers looking at ways to combat animal abuse and improve animal welfare, these changes could be implemented in the near future.

“No Scan, No Fly” Policy is to stay at UK airports

Despite EU demands for change, the “no security scan, no fly” policy is set to remain at British Airports.

Justine Greening, the transport secretary, said that there was significant justification, the security threat to Britain, to not allow passengers to opt out from scanning.

“If someone refuses to be scanned, they will not be able to fly”.

Greening also said that they would not be banning x-ray security scanners that are used at British airports, even though the European commissioned had raised concerns about the potential health risks.

The new scanners, that have caused some controversy, were brought into UK airports in February 2010 after the Christmas Day airline bomb plot.
