CCTV Security Upgrade in Islington
Islington council have announced plans this week to upgrade their CCTV security network with state-of-the-art cameras in more locations. The new cameras produce high resolution images and Islington council intend to expand their CCTV network onto every estate.
The update would see the CCTV network centralised to one 24-hour control centre in a bid to bring a stop to gang problems which have been arising in many estates across Islington. Improved CCTV security will ultimately increase the safety of residents whilst cutting down on trouble makers. The current CCTV cameras were installed in 1997, and their poor picture quality and low resolution images make it difficult to identify suspects.
This move from Islington council is part of a wider crime fighting scheme across the capital, in particular the crack down on gang culture.
