CCTV Cameras to be Fitted in Taxi Fleet to Stamp out Fraudulent Claims

The owner of a taxi service in Hull which has a fleet of around 95 vehicles has been advised by his insurance company to install CCTV cameras to all of his taxi’s to cut out fraudulent claims from passengers involved in accidents. Last year the insurance company involved, Westminster Insurance paid out £40,000 in personal injury claims to passengers, £30,000 of which was for whiplash, many of which taxi firm owner Andrew Tindall believes to be fraudulent.

The CCTV cameras proposed would be able to record the vehicles speed, direction and images of both the driver and any passengers. It is thought that the installation of CCTV cameras will not only stamp out fraudulent whiplash claims but could also see a reduction in attacks or verbal assaults on taxi drivers and passengers trying to exit the taxi without paying for their fare.

By simply logging into CCTV systems on my I phone I can then take control of pan tilt and zoom cameras.

As the picture show by choosing the ptz control icon the arrows appear on the image, and by pressing them allow me to move the camera in that direction

Through the app we can also zoom in and out with camera the using the plus and minus icons in the bottom right of the image

Mobile CCTV proving success in Bournemouth

Mobile CCTV mobile installed in Bournemouth last year have proved a huge success with over 120 arrests being made as part of Bournemouth Council’s Safe Communities campaign. The campaign started last April invested £46,000 in the four mobile CCTV cameras which have been highly effective in capturing offences including assault, public disorder and burglary in hot spots where there currently isn’t any fixed CCTV cameras.

So far the four mobile CCTV cameras have been able to capture crimes in 29 different locations across Bournemouth and have led to a total of 124 arrests since their inception 12 months ago. With their immediate success it is thought that more local councils across the country are looking to implement mobile CCTV cameras to work alongside their existing crime fighting tactics.

Alarm maintenance

It has been a very long day today! Hg security systems were called out to an alarm activation at three am at a theatre in London where we monitor and maintain their alarm. A squirrel or rat had chewed through an alarm wire in a ceiling space of the building. The alarm is fully repaired and we where on site within forty minutes of the call. But that’s the service we give our customers who are more than just numbers to us.

Fashion Designer has £23,000 Rolex Stolen

A fashion designer had her £23,000 watch stolen in South Kensington, by two men who followed her home from the night club she visited in Holborn. CCTV images have been released of the two men who are thought to have followed the woman home at 6 am.

One of the muggers approached the designer from behind, covering her mouth, while his partner in crime removed the Daytona Rolex from her wrist. The CCTV images capture the men outside of the nightspot in Holden, Jet Black club. The robbers are thought to be of Mediterranean or Arabic appearance, aged 25 to 30 and are suspected of being involved in other violent muggings.

Police have welcomed the release of the CCTV images as they look to solve the robbery which took place on November 3, and believe any help the public can provide will be of great help.

All Police Cars to be Fitted With CCTV Cameras

Metropolitan Police commissioner Bernard Hogan-Hower has reiterated he’s intentions this week to install CCTV cameras in all Police vehicles in the UK, including both police vans and cars. The latest technology that will be used will capture images both outwards to the public and also inwards. The move is expected to be made to be able to pick up on incidents by the general public and also mistakes carried out by the police officers on duty. . According to Mr Hogan-Howe this latest kit will “challenge the officers when they get it wrong and it provides evidence when they get it right”.

The plans were unveiled by Mr Hogan-Hower this week whilst speaking on the London Radio station LBC. However the idea of installing CCTV cameras in police vehicles is not a new concept in the UK. The Met Police commissioner spoke on the radio show how he first introduced cameras into police vehicles in Merseyside nearly a decade ago and hopes to have the same success with the Metropolitan police.

Documentary May Compromise Murder Trial

The BBC has come under fire today from authorities in South Africa, over their decision to broadcast CCTV images of murder suspect Shrien Dewani in the days surrounding his wife’s death. Mthunzi Mhaga, of the National Prosecuting Authority, said that the release of the footage could lead to a “trial by media”.

Dewani is currently fighting extradition to South Africa, accused of arranging the taxi cab hijacking during which he was released, and his wife shot. Crucial to the investigation is CCTV footage showing Dewani handing a bag to the cab driver, Zola Tongo, in his Cape Town hotel three days after the killing. Dewani claims he was simply paying Tongo for the cab ride. Tongo says that Dewani paid him £1,400 for his part in the murder, and has since been jailed for 18 years.

The BBC is yet to have responded, but the documentary is billed as containing footage which reveals “a different side to the couple”. With Dewani allegedly having attempted suicide, and with the South African Director of Public Prosecutions having prejudicially accused Dewani of a “heinous crime”, it will be worth seeing how this documentary, broadcast this coming Thursday, will affect the profile of a suspect who has already been demonised by the tabloids.

Council’s CCTV Spend Announced

Figures announced last month have shown how councils throughout Britain have spent a combined £515 million on CCTV security equipment within the last five years. The combined total was spent by 428 councils with Birmingham City Council leading the way with a spend of £14.3 million on its 636 cameras.

CCTV Camera Captures Gunman After Mask Slips

A Gunman carrying out a robbery in Edinburgh has been caught when the scarf masking his faced slipped during the raid on an off license last year. The man, identified as Christopher Petterson was captured on CCTV both with the scarf masking his face and then later showing how it had slipped to partially reveal his face.

Police have had previous dealings with Petterson and recognised his face from the photos. The stills from CCTV proved to be vital in the conviction of Petterson, with photos at one point showing the criminal looking directly at the CCTV camera.

Footballer Anton Ferdinand Increases Security During Race Row

Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand has spent £30,000 on personal security since his involvement in the John Terry race row last October. The race row intensified again last month when Ferdinand and Terry were matched up in the FA Cup, with Ferdinand subjected to death threats before the game.
